I’ve only got a few fans..
(or customers!) Audiences develop different relationships with artists and brands depending on how they relate to their music or products. Some are sold hook line and sinker, whilst others and only occasionally and casually interested in you. How many fans do you need for a sustainable business?
In the music business True Fans will buy anything you release, go to their nearest show, and generally support the artist. They will generate your income that makes being a full time musician viable. And thats 50K a year not to be dismissed lightly. Of course there are different types of fans – from the hardcore to the casual, and I’ll talk about those another time. But you have to find, target and keep your True Fans first. What do they look like?
• Of course you’ll have their email address.
• You’ll have them in a Twitter list.
• They’ll be the first to ‘Like’ your Facebook Page posts. They might be friends with your personal profile too.
• You should have their postal address – you will have shipped them something in the last year.
• You’ve definitely met them at a show.
• You might even know where they live from that House Concert you gave.
